Pre-pubescent children who display inappropriate sexual behaviours

1 day awareness course

If you work with or care for pre-pubescent children are you able to tell the difference between age-expected sexual behaviours and those which are of concern? What criteria do you use? What are the causes? When should you intervene? How? What works?  This is an area of work beset with myths, false assumptions and value judgements and it is important that carers and practitioners do not rely upon inappropriate ideas and concepts drawn from work with adolescent and adult sex offenders.

This course provides an introduction to this area of work and provides an overview of key issues relating to identification, assessment, intervention and care. is designed for any professionals and carers who may work with or care for pre-pubescent children who display sexually inappropriate behaviours. It focuses on pre-adolescent children and is an introductory course which does not require participants to have any previous knowledge or experience in this area of work. The course will involve a mixture of presentation, exercises and discussion and each participant will receive a handout pack.
