The continuation and development of these projects is dependent on securing further funding from donations and other sources for 2010!
• Groupwork for non-offending parents of children who have been sexually abused within the family
Research and LFF’s clinical experience shows how important parents are to their children’s healing process after abuse. Non-abusing parents and carers often feel so disabled by the abuse that they need personal support before they can fully help their child. Also, they need help and advice in becoming empowered to protect in the future. The level of existing support available to them is often insufficient. Through this project direct help will go to the participants, and therefore the children concerned.
The first group has been made possible by a donor and is being evaluated by the University of Birmingham. Demand is already exceeding supply: we need more funds to help more parents.
• Inform & Inform Plus Courses
Additional funding is needed to finance further courses and expansion into the Midlands where there is an established need.
• Stop it Now! Helpline – in need of more funding!
The Ministry of Justice grant provides for two telephone lines and 100 days post-call follow up. Donations have helped start a third line, increase staffing and add 20 days more follow up work. But the increase in demand for post-call follow up is growing rapidly.
• Stop it Now! UK & Ireland public education campaign developments
Central capacity needs to expand and funding is needed for more administrative support and for evaluation.
To be truly effective in making Stop it Now! a household name and protecting more children through encouraging more people to seek help, major funding is needed to increase awareness through the media and other outlets across the UK & Ireland.
