Learning about sex offenders: awareness training
Course Overview
This course is designed for participants with no particular experience in the field of child sexual abuse, but whose role in protecting children is central. The course is designed for designated child protection teachers; faith leaders; nursery workers; children's home and probation hostel workers; youth and community workers; and social services workers.
It is designed to offer an introduction to the issues of sexual abuse in families and communities, to offer basic information about sex offenders, and to demythologise the subject.
Course Aims
- To provide information about different types of adult sex offenders and their different patterns of offending
- To consider the impact of offender attitudes and beliefs, as well as behaviour, on the children and young people they abuse
- To consider the impact of the offender on the protective parent, siblings, other family members and local communities
- To consider the interaction between a sex offender and workers in community agencies
